Safeguarding

At Caragh GFC, the safety and wellbeing of children and young people is our top priority. We are committed to providing a welcoming, enjoyable, and safe environment where every child can take part in Gaelic Games.
Our safeguarding work follows the guidelines set out GAA’s Child Safeguarding Policy. This ensures that good practice is in place across all our activities, including coaching, training, games, social events and that we meet both our Association and legal obligations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Promoting a child- and youth-centred ethos across the club.
- Ensuring best practice in child welfare and protection is followed at all times.
- Overseeing Garda Vetting and safeguarding requirements for those working with children in the club.
- Completing and publishing our Club Child Safeguarding Risk Assessment and Safeguarding Statement.

Garda Vetting
Garda Vetting is a mandatory requirement in the GAA for anyone working with children or vulnerable persons. This includes all coaches, mentors, team managers, referees of underage games, and anyone organising activities for players under 18.
All vetting in the GAA is completed online through the membership system Foireann, and applicants must also provide proof of identity which is verified by our Club Children’s Officer. Vetting is valid for three years, after which it must be renewed.
No one may begin a role working with children in the club until they have received confirmation of vetting clearance.
For full details on how to apply for Garda Vetting, please visit the official GAA page here: GAA Garda Vetting Information or contact our Children’s Officer.
