Caragh Crowned Leinster Club Champions

Caragh GFC’s remarkable journey in 2024 reached new heights as our Senior Men’s team were crowned Leinster Intermediate Club Football Champions, following a thrilling campaign that capped off a truly historic season.
Having already captured the Kildare Intermediate Championship, Caragh became just the seventh Kildare club ever to claim provincial honours.
The Leinster final, played in Parnell Park against Dublin champions Naomh Mearnóg, drew an incredible Caragh support, with maroon and white filling the stands. The team delivered a performance full of grit, determination, and composure, overcoming difficult conditions and strong opposition to seal a famous victory.
A key moment in the opening half came when goalkeeper Michael Behan produced a superb penalty save, denying Naomh Mearnóg’s Karl Lynch Bissett and giving Caragh a crucial lift. Scores from Jake Corrigan, Ryan Burke, and Eoin O’Haire kept the scoreboard ticking, and Caragh went into the break with a narrow lead.
The second half saw Caragh step up another gear. With Darragh Swords leading by example, tirelessly covering ground and kicking vital points, the team weathered pressure from the Dublin side. Further scores from Josh Gannon, Ronan Doorey, and Conor Sullivan extended the lead as the Caragh supporters roared their side towards the finish line.
In the closing stages, substitute Dan Campbell capped the day with a brilliant long-range point, sparking joyous celebrations as the referee blew the final whistle. The pitch was soon awash with supporters embracing their heroes, marking an unforgettable day for the club and community.
Manager Michael Browne and his backroom team deserve enormous credit for guiding the squad through an unforgettable season that began with few tipping Caragh as contenders.
For Caragh GFC, this triumph is more than silverware — it is a proud moment that reflects years of dedication from players, coaches, volunteers, and supporters alike.
