Caragh Push Athy to the Limit in Championship Thriller

Caragh GFC’s remarkable 2025 season came to an end on Saturday evening in St Conleth’s Park, but not before another spirited and determined display that underlined just how far this team has come in its first year back at senior level.
Facing a seasoned Athy side packed with county experience, Caragh pushed them all the way in a hard-fought Joe Mallon Motors Senior Football Championship Quarter-Final. At half time the sides were level at 0-3 apiece, with Caragh’s defensive structure and intensity frustrating Athy despite their advantage with the strong wind.
Early in the second half, Darragh Swords edged Caragh in front with a pair of well-taken frees, and the energy from the large Caragh support made it feel like an upset could be on the cards. Athy responded with goals through Kevin Feely and Colm Moran, but each time Caragh fought back, showing the same never-say-die attitude that has defined this campaign.
Dan Lynam, Mikey Behan, and Swords all stood out in what was a brave team performance that reflected the enormous progress made this season. Despite the final scoreline of 3-7 to 0-10, Caragh left the field with their heads held high.
This year has seen Caragh re-establish themselves as a force in Kildare football — securing senior status, winning the Division 3 League, and now reaching the last eight of the Senior Championship in their first year back at this level.
A huge credit goes to Michael Browne and his management team, along with every player who has shown relentless commitment and pride in the Caragh jersey.
The foundations are now firmly in place to build on this success and continue the club’s upward trajectory into 2026.
